Telling God about our Wants and Needs

One of my recent readings, was about laying all our desires in front of God. We don't ever have to make an appointment with Him, but it doesn't hurt to picture ourselves putting our business or life plan on His desk. Keep in mind, God is the ultimate boss! He knows what is going on, and He will work things out. Why then do we have to even tell or ask? All prayer is a communion with Our Lord, and sometimes we have to ask and tell because we don't have a clear understanding of what we want and need in our lives. It is an opportunity for God to communicate our true desire because He truly knows us better than we know ourselves.

Sometimes when I look back over my life, I am thankful God didn't give me what I was asking for at the time. And even though waiting is still difficult, it is easier knowing that waiting on His will is best for me. It comes down to a matter of trust...trusting Him to lead us through this journey.

Dearest Lord, thank you for watching my steps and keeping me from paths not meant for me. Help me to remember some wants may not be good for me. Help me to remember my true needs are in your hands. Help me to remember your will is the best design for my life and the awesome manifestation of your Glory! Amen

Tending the Soul for God's Will

Before we can serve God in other fields we must till, plant, weed, prune and bear fruit in our own fields.

------------------------------------------

The will precedes the intellect.

Everyday I have little readings I do, and the first sentence is a paraphrase from one. The second comes from a CD set I was listening to earlier.

You know how you can read several pages or listen to thirty minutes of something, and out of it all you find a couple of nuggets of wisdom or teachings? When you go back to it later, what you see or hear can be something totally different. I’m trying to make a habit of writing down what strikes me that day, whether it comes from my pastor, family, friend, reading or a talking donkey. Okay I don’t expect to find a talking donkey or anything, but you never know. It can happen right?

The first sentence struck me because of what I am always asking God. What am I suppose to be doing? I never get a good feel for the answer. This sentence makes me think, “Maybe I’m not ready to do what God desires because I haven’t tended my own field.” Tending our own field requires a lifetime of cultivating, but we should bear some fruit at some point!

Then the second sentence struck me because there is the constant fight. My will wants to do one thing when my intellect knows I should do something else. My will either justifies the end or figures it’s not so bad after all. But no matter how small the infraction, it chips away at the rich soil my soul should be steeped in. How can I grow the tree to bear fruit, if I’m not enriching my soul? My friend Karinann’s blog post, Out With The Old, In With The New, touched on the same subject. At first I thought how discouraging this “trying” to become anew can be. Then it came to me. It is better to be questioning than to think everything is okay. I think when I’m rolling along that track saying and thinking, “I’m okay” is when I am in the greatest danger. So I pray God will help me to examine my actions or lack of action and continually tend my soul for His desire.

Road Work

It seems like today everywhere I turned road work was going on. I've had to detour on dirt roads, move over for big flashing arrows and dodge street painters. It's funny because when I leave the house, I assume the road I'm travelling will be the same as I last saw it. Then the upset happens.

How many times in my life's journey have I been forced to detour, taking the road unplanned? How many times did I have to stop and wait or move over? How many times have I said not my will O Lord but yours? The answer to the last question is probably not enough, but I have prayed that prayer often. So why am I still surprised when God upsets the course by detouring me, causing me to wait or requiring I move over? Instead of thinking of the inconvenience maybe I should think of the dangers He thwarts, the direction He desires, the timing that is only His and the following that I should cherish.

Where Does the Time Go and What to Do?

It seems like May has flown away quicker than it arrived. My husband has needed the office, so I've been spending more time away from the computer.

In four short months I will be retired for a total of two years, and I still don't know what I'm doing. My parents are in their eighties, but both are for now in decent health. I do visit them often. My day consists of Mass, exercise and whatever pops up. Believe me when I say, I feel like a jack of all trades and master of none. I enjoy drawing, painting, writing and pottery, but I don't focus on any of the listed very well. I keep asking God what He wants me to do. I know there are many good things to do, but just because something is good doesn't necessarily mean it's God's will.

So I continue to move along with each day, hoping I'm doing what God wants me to do for that moment. But I sure would appreciate your prayers. God really knows, sometimes it takes a good hit in the head for me to get His messages! Peace, joy and blessings to all!
