I found an old booklet on swearing, and I've been reading it when I get a chance. I plan to post some of what I find when I finish it. But, I'm curious or nosey...
What do you think about foul language?

30 years ago every other word out of mouth was a curse. Father James Garisto gave a homily (oh how I remember it) on how vile it was. I vowed to stop. I haven't cursed in more than 10 years. It is vile. It is inappropriate and yes, it is a sin. You could be violating any one of the commandments every time you say one.
That must have been some homily! Thanks for your input. So many people have different views.
Pre-reversion, I am ashamed to say I was close to where Mr McDermott was. Post reversion I can't imagine using the same tongue that receives our Blessed Lord in Holy Communion almost daily to also curse. Now in Jersey traffic I won't say that one or two minor inappropriate expletives hasn't slipped, but it's rare and God gets an immediate "I'm sorry!"
Look forward to your posts on this.
Oh and as for using Jesus's sacred name to curse, most people who know me know better than to do that in my presence; I rarely let it go unnoticed. OK I'll stop now :)
Cursing is words. Not actions. I see no sin in using words to convey human emotion.
It's a sin against the 2nd commandment: Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
But I think cursing can come in different forms; it may not be foul as we recognize them, but if words we use kill the life of God in others, that, I believe, is cursing.
Good connecting with you, Heartlook! :-)
Thank you everyone. Your comments are interesting! That's what I like about communicating with others. I always learn something!
